Before you jump to Whole Wheat Spätzle / Knöpfle recipe, you may want to read this short interesting healthy tips about How to Improve Your Mood with Food.

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat a few eggs to feel better!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.

We hope you got insight from reading it, now let’s go back to whole wheat spätzle / knöpfle recipe. To cook whole wheat spätzle / knöpfle you only need 6 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to cook Whole Wheat Spätzle / Knöpfle:
  1. Provide 120 g all-purpose/plain flour (about 1 US cup)
  2. Use 120 g whole wheat flour (about 1 US cup)
  3. Take 2 tsp salt
  4. Take 1/2 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  5. Provide 2 eggs
  6. Use 160 ml cold or sparkling water, plus a bit more as needed
Instructions to make Whole Wheat Spätzle / Knöpfle:
  1. Mix all ingredients well in a bowl. Use just enough water to make it like a thick pancake batter.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add a teaspoon or if salt to the water. The traditional way to make spätzle is to put some batter on the edge of a cutting board and flick it into the boiling water. You can also use wide holed colander or tray (picture above) or of course, a spätzle press. (See my previous spätzle recipe for more details on this part, link above in the story section.)
  3. Make the spätzle in batches by cooking a ladleful or two at a time. When they float to the top, they're done.
  4. Scoop out the floating, finished spätzle….
  5. …and dunk them into a bowl of warm water. This keeps them from sticking together while you're still cooking.
  6. When ready to serve, drain and divide on to plates!
